10 Popular Natural Hairstyles for Afro-Textured Hair
Table of Contents

Since you went natural and embraced your textured hair, I'm sure you have a few go-to styles. But maybe you're looking to switch things up and learn new ways to style your hair. Many of us don't have natural hair stylists or salons conveniently located nearby, and it can quickly become a real challenge when you're not used to styling your own hair.

So, if you're searching for simple and quick hairstyles to achieve, here are 10 inspiring natural hair looks for your everyday styling. The most important thing is to find a style that fits your personality and lifestyle.

Before you dive into styling, make sure you have all your essential tools, such as a brush or an afro pick, and your styling products, like a styling cream, gel, or mousse. These will make it easier to create the natural hairstyles we'll be featuring in this article. Now that you're all set, let's get started!

1 - An Afro Puff (The Basics)

This hairstyle is perfect for creating a simple yet chic look. If you don't have the right accessory to go all the way around your hair, meaning a large enough elastic band, you can use a shoelace cleaned beforehand. Wrap the elastic or shoelace around your head, crossing the ends in the front. Lightly tighten the shoelace until you achieve the desired afro puff effect; you'll tighten more or less depending on your hair length.

2 - The Wash and Go

This hairstyle, also known as "wash and wear" or "wet look," is very easy to achieve. Take a good-sized comb and separate your hair into four sections. Then, using a spray bottle filled with water, spray your hair until it's thoroughly wet. Next, apply a curl activator or gel, or both, to each section. The products must penetrate the hair fiber well for the curls to appear. Once everything is evenly distributed, use the comb to style your hair as desired. After drying, this hairstyle will last several days without you having to touch it up or redo it!

3 - The Twist-Out

This hairstyle is perfect for creating more volume. Separate your hair into four sections using a wide-tooth comb, properly condition your hair, then create 3 or 4 twists per section. The next day or several days later, undo the twists, separate the strands to achieve the desired volume. You'll get a magnificent twist out!

4 - Twists (Two-Strand Twists)

A perfect and fairly simple protective hairstyle to create if you know how to do twists. Once done, you have a multitude of styling possibilities, maintenance is simple, and if you eventually get tired of the twists, you can undo them to get a twist out with ultra-defined curls. You have the choice, depending on your hair length, to make them large, medium, small (micro twists), or in a loose twist style.

5 - The Braid Out

It's like a twist out, except it's done with braids. Personally, I find that the curl result with braids is much better, but that's just my opinion.

6 - Bantu Knots (or Caca Cabri)

This is a very popular and very simple hairstyle to create. You separate your hair into several sections, twist, then wrap the strand around itself towards the scalp.

7 - Cornrows

This is a classic in the family of Afro hairstyles. You can create several braids, one or two per section, depending on your hair length. The possibilities are numerous, and you can play with patterns to create very original looks.

10 - Braids

With or without professional help, it's possible to add volume and length to your braids. This will allow you to create more sophisticated hairstyles such as long braids or cascade braids. You can also opt for synthetic hair or human hair depending on the desired look.
